Tree Planting

To enable the dredging and rejuvenation of the pond a considerable number of Alder trees from the sides and back of the pond will be felled between now and the Autumn of 2013.  These naturally colonised the pond area as it silted up. Clearing them will enable the dredging of the pond. A felling licence has been granted to enable this work to be undertaken.

It would be irresponsible for the environment and the feel of the area to fell these trees without a corresponding tree planting plan. By 2017 a 300m new hedge will have been planted alongside the public footpath that runs to Baconsthorpe and substantial number of trees planted in fir covet (an area currently to the West of the footpath). These are likely to be similar fir trees to those present already.

In 2014 heding and trees have been planted beside the pond; and in pockets in adjacent woodland.

We cultivate our own trees from seed collected. We feel a better eventual transplant success rate will be achieved by them already being established in pots in soil that is the same as they will mature in.

Further areas of tree planting may well be undertaken and as decided this web page will be updated.
