Butterflies

In a series of surveys NORFOLK BUTTERFLY CONSERVATION have determined that Selbrigg pond is home to a variety of butterflies.

The most interesting records are of White Admiral (most probably strays from nearby woodland - whose caterpillars feed on honeysuckle) and Grayling (which appreciates bare sandy patches to bask on and feeds on various grasses). Both of these are UK BAP species. The other interesting sighting is of Green Hairstreak, which feeds on Gorse and Broom usually, although some use Dogwood.
